Biography
Candy Samples' career is one of wonder and mystery. Hailing from
Atlanta, GA, Ms. Samples was crowned Miss Pool Slut 1995 from P.S. We
Care. While in Atlanta, Candy also had the pleasure of performing
with The Atlanta Gay Mens Chorus and Dad’s Garage Theatre.
Spending a brief time in Boston, Candy met fellow performers Chic and
Sassy and was featured in the documentary, Making of a Drag Queen,
alongside Chic. The three divas of Boston appeared in
Sassy’s original, Beauty is Just Skin Deep and competed in
Emerson College’s Miss Emerson Pageant. Sadly, Candy never
won the crown in this contest, but Chic and Sassy both were crowned
Miss Emerson over the past years.
In 2000, Candy packed up her bags to The Big Apple and soon landed a
long-running job at Albatross Bar, as host of Friday Night
Karaoke. Crowds came from all-over to see the mistress of the
microphone sing her renditions of Kiss Me Deadly, My Strongest Suit and
Redneck Woman.
2002 featured Candy in Chic and Sassy’s hysterical comedy, Chic
and Sassy: The Higher the Hair, the Closer to God, at PS 122 as part of
The New York International Fringe Festival. There Candy portrayed
the girls’ 40 ounce-drinking Fairy Godmother, keeping audiences
in stitches.
Producers of TLC’s hit show, A Makeover Story, spotted Candy and
featured Candy and Chic in a special episode entitled, "Beauty is a Drag".
In 2006 Candy left Albatross to pursue other opportunities. Her
one-woman cabaret, Sample Sale, was a hit at The Duplex Cabaret
Theatre. She joined forces with Chic and Sassy to form Gender
Offenders shortly thereafter. GO performes sketch comedy, music,
burlesque and political satire. Their 2006 holiday show, Jingle
Balls and Mistle-Ho’s, sold out The Duplex’s Cabaret
Theatre and their 2007 debut, Crimes of Passion: A Valentine’s
Day Massacre proves to be just as successful, playing at the new
D-Lounge in Union Square this February.
Candy is a busy girl, and shows no signs of slowing down. Her
podcast, The Candy Show, is in the works and she has begun composing an
original musical CD. What does the future hold for Candy?
Perhaps world domination!
Y’all be sweet!
